In honor of this season…

…I felt I just had to make a new dress!

A few days before I had my idea of the blouse I made a little while back I had another idea. This time too I was lying in my bed, it was late and I was desperately trying to go to sleep.ย  But then I came to think about this fabric that I have had in my stash for several years now. It’s a green and black checked silk fabric that I got of a clearance sale, with the intention of turning it into a dress. The dress I had in mind didn’t work out in the end and ever since this fabric has just been lying around, waiting…

So I thought about it and decided it was high time I did something with it! And since I have always been of the opinion that the fabric has a very Christmasy feel to it I thought it was a very appropriate time to get on with it. And so I made the decision that I would make a dress using one that I already have, and love, as a pattern; my pretty Laura Ashley dress.

As I have said I am not very used to sewing stuff without having a pattern to go after. This time I did have more to go after however than on my last project. So it wasn’t too hard and I am very pleased with the end result of this one!

I also decided to make a bolero style jacket to go along with it. I had this black velvet fabric lying around too, and came to the conclusion that it would be perfect for this. This part of the project proved to be more difficult than the dress. It was harder to get a nice fit, and like always the sleeves gave me a tough time (that was one of the things I liked about making this dress, it didn’t have any sleeves! Hooray!).ย I had planned to use a button for the front, but when I reached that stage a combination of reasons convinced me that a pair ofย  hooks and eyes would suite better.

So without further ado, here are some pictures that my sister was gracious enough to help me take this morning.

Please take note of my shoes. They happen to be my absolute favourite ones! I could probably write a whole post just praising them! But I shall spare you from that at present and instead only say that they are simply amazing and I really love them! ๐Ÿ™‚

I can tell you that this was really freezing!

And my beloved piano (alright, it’s not mine, but I’m the only one who uses it)!

Over all I am pleased with how the outfit turned out, and now I am hoping there will be an occasion soon when I can use it. Preferably an occasion when it isn’t too cold… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh, oh, you had to go and make me green with envy, didn’t you now! : D What an absolutely beautiful dress, plus shoes!
How long did it take you to complete the whole outfit?

  2. Aurora says:

Why thank you Camilla! That is so sweet of you, and of course, I only did it to make you envious. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜›
Well I first started working on it probably a month or so back, but then I got distracted by other projects and it had to wait. Then I got back to it and finished it all yesterday.

That is a very beautiful dress!!! Great job! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Oh wow, you are much more productive than you hinted at! You sly thing, lol! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I like the material, it is an incredible pattern… great colors! It also seems to fit you pretty well too, which is something I’ve noticed in your sewing projects. Many people forget to make the clothes fit right; I like how you don’t just make something that just looks like pieces of fabric put together, but that you do it correctly… ๐Ÿ˜€

The bolero jacket adds a nice touch too, good work! ๐Ÿ˜€

Lovely dress and shoes. Well done!

    Warm wishes,

    Thank you everyone!

Actually Justin, what I did say was that I was having a hard time writing blog posts, not sewing! ๐Ÿ˜‰ At least that’s what I meant to say… ๐Ÿ˜›

It is my goal to get the clothes I make to fit me as well as I can, I am glad to hear that you think I have succeeded with this. ๐Ÿ™‚ I know I can improve further with this, but I still appreciate hearing it!

This a lovely dress and I like the way you matched all those lines up so neatly, which seems like a challenging thing to do.

I like your Christmas tree, too.
